I got a tour at Gold’s Gym a few days ago and the place is huge. It covers pretty much everything a guy would want from a gym, including an MMA academy which beginners can take part in free of charge. The place is around 4 floors and is almost ready to open. There are a few things that make this gym standout.
Almost every Gold’s Gym in the world has a ‘Cardio Cinema‘. Instead of your regular cardio you go to a dark room and watch one of the latest movies out there. I’m definitely not going to be watching a 2 hour movie but I like the idea being different. It’s a good alternative if there isn’t anything nice to watch on TV.
Their treadmills are one of the most advanced systems I’ve seen. You get to make an account so that everytime you run it logs your data and performance, which you can later on see as a weekly or monthly report. The screen displays all the sports channel to not miss out on a game and has a USB port if you want to listen or watch your own content.
There’s an entire floor dedicated to weight lifters that’s are good for both beginners and hardcore guys. There’s also a small area on a different floor for those casual weight lifters that just train to stay fit. Every weight lifting machine I could think of was on that floor
The MMA room was pretty impressive, they’ve also bought one of the best coaches in town from what I’ve heard. Beginner training is free but if you want to go advanced you pay for classes.
The swimming pool (a pretty big one) and jacuzzi are on the top floor with a great landscape view. They were still running some tests when I was there but they should be ready at the soft opening. There’s also a sauna room and other facilities you’d expect from a gym.
Each member gets a guide book. It records your weight every month, calorie burn and weight loss among other things. What I liked about Gold’s Gym was the trainers bonus, it comes from how much weight his clients lose which is a great incentive for the trainers to push their clients to workout harder.
The staff will always ready to help out, they are requested to physically show you how a workout is done and not just tell you how it’s done. I like how they had a bundle of trainers, each in his own field of expertise. If you get a private trainer he will be wearing something else to avoid getting asked and focus on your training.
Each member also gets a Gold’s Gym passport that makes them eligible to get free access to any Gold’s Gym in the world for a day 14 times a year. There are 13 Gold’s Gyms in UAE and 9 in Saudi Arabia. The plan is to have 5 Gold’s Gym in Kuwait. The standard members costs KD 50 per month or KD 420 per year.
Overall the gym looks very promising, I would have considered joining if it wasn’t in Salmiya. They did promise me however they will be opening up somewhere closer to my house. Soft opening will be January 1st 2014, the official launch might have Arnold Schwarzenegger which has a lot of people excited.
