An anonymous hacker has claimed he has penetrated 79 banks and retrieved credit card information. More than 1,700 accounts were included in the data file which had full names, addresses, phone numbers and emails. After going through the data that was formatted in plain text I found several accounts from Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain but I won’t be mentioning any names.
The Bad News: The hacker claims he only released half the data to the public, meaning there is likely more Kuwaiti accounts if he releases the second batch.
The Good News: I noticed the phone numbers of the Kuwaiti accounts were 7 digit numbers, meaning the information is at least 3 years old since telephone numbers in Kuwait switched to 8 digit numbers on October 17 2008. So most if not all the credit cards are likely to be expired by now. He also didn’t include the full credit card numbers to the public so the threat isn’t that big.
