It feels like this is what The Avenues Mall is trying to tell people. That smoking is banned, but it’s okay if you do it quietly, we’ll even give you an ashtray while you’re at it. I was having lunch at Paul the other day sitting at a non-smoking table and right in front me was a guy smoking legally on his table. The smoke was stuffing my face, so what’s the point of a non-smoking section if I’m going to smell all the smoke anyway?
Why aren’t they completely separated with a ventilation system installed? It almost feels as if the people who set the regulations were mentally challenged, do they not know that smoke causes air pollution and everyone needs air to breath? Why do I have to go through this? Everyone complains Dubai is going forward and we’re going backwards, well here’s exactly why it’s happening. We can’t implement the basics in our own country when all the other countries moved on.
An estimated 42,000 non-smokers die every year due to 2nd hand smoking, let alone all the diseases caused and the fact that there’s 3rd hand smoking. Is this not enough to take the non-smoking in malls regulation seriously? To have restaurants actually not offer ashtrays in a mall that proudly claims it’s non-smoking, to have security approach smokers and politely ask them to stop smoking. It feels like this is too much to ask for when it should be the opposite.
