Gloria Jean’s 19th shop opened in Salmiya, I got an invitation to check it out. Decided to go for breakfast since the weather was encouraging and I had some free time in my hands. I liked the indoor atmosphere and was impressed by their pricing. Their cheaper than my favourite coffee shop Caribou in almost everything.
For those of you in love with cakes Gloria Jean’s Coffee has quiet a big variety of them. Though I didn’t try any they do look delicious, not the best idea for a light breakfast. The place isn’t just for those wanting coffee it has a lot of sugary items you can have for dessert.
The sandwiches and salads they offer are similar to other competitor coffee shops. I tried their BBQ Chicken which tasted average, I did want to taste their Thai Chicken and I’m pretty sure I would have had a better experience there. My friend had a sandwich with different types of cheese that he liked. Their sandwiches cost 1.100KD average.
I had a Vanilla flavoured cappuccino as it is my all-time favourite coffee. They even offered me to make it myself but I was busy taking photo’s I didn’t want to miss. It tasted great but slightly cold only because I took my time taking pictures of it. So in your experience that’s unlikely to happen.
A unique feature Gloria Jean’s Coffee offers is cappuccino customization. Just tell them what you want drawn on your cup and they’ll try to get it right. I wanted them to write Kuwaitiful but that was too long for a cup that fits 4 letters maximum. So I went with “AU” with a kangaroo, resembling Australia. Which is where the coffee shop originally came from.
I really liked the way they got their feedback from customers. They have a big notice board filled with suggestions and thank you notes. This is a great way to connect with your customers and let them feel their feedback is very important. Many of the notes are complementing the coffee, that tasted great.
The staff were energetic, helpful and more importantly cheerful. The place gives you a cosy feeling and the chairs are comfortable. Some are wooden chairs which isn’t all that comforting but a great place to sit and study. Since I usually sit on wooden chairs to study because if I get too comfortable I get sleepy.
Update: After a revisit I had a Vanilla Cappuccino with Thai Chicken and my friend had a Diet Chocolate Cake with a cold Caramel Mocha. The Cappuccino was really hot this time, unlike other coffee shops they don’t close the led on your coffee, you decide if you want it on or not. I enjoyed the Thai Chicken more, it was filled with vegetables and they tasted fresh. I also tasted the cake and it didn’t taste any deity at all. You get the taste with less calories, while the Caramel Mocha looked great and was recommended by my friend.
An interesting feature I found for the people that care about how many calories they intake daily. Almost everything they sell has the calorie number displayed. They have a healthy section too for those that are in diet or fitness. You can always add up how much calories in total a meal with a drink contain easily.
