Picked up this monster from X-Cite to review. I’d like to start of by saying I was looking to build a computer before doing this review since it is usually much better than a laptop but after doing this review I will most probably get a laptop in the same level (If not the same one) since I will get other features such as mobility and being able to have my computer when I travel.
Let’s start off with the computer specifications to get more familiar with this monster.
|Name||MSI GT70 Dragon Edition|
|CPU||Intel core i7-4700MQ|
|VGA||Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M / 4GB GDDR5|
|Screen||17.3” full HD (1920*1080)|
|HDD||384 GB SSD + 750 GB 7200 RPM|
|RAM||32 GB DDR3|
The keyboard designed by Steelseries with customizable backlit LED colors makes the computer looks so amazing and you won’t even feel you are using a laptop keyboard.
Below you can see some of the games which the laptop was benchmarked on. I had a blast testing these as most of the experience was crispy smooth.
* Some games limit the frames per second to 60 thus in lower graphic settings we could not get more than 60 fps.
** The mentioned FPS is the average while in the races or while driving fast
All the games were run on highest resolution possible (Most if not all were on 1920 x 1080)
After doing few tests on some of the games, the fps was dropping around 60% when on battery. So for instance, the Crysis 3 on ultra quality had around 8-9 fps when on battery. Similarly, Hitman on Medium quality had around 40-45 fps when on battery which was around 60 fps drop rate.
The charger for the laptop weighs more than 1 KG and when added to the weight of the laptop itself, it makes carrying it for the long run too difficult. However, it’s a great laptop for LAN parties at a friends house, you’ll definitely compete with desktop users when it comes to specs and performance.
If you need a gaming PC and need mobility with it at the same time, this is the perfect choice. If you need a laptop for both gaming and for working, then you need to think twice since carrying the laptop for work on daily basis is really tough.
