Being a sports car kinda guy, I was excited to review the new Cayman S. I’ve always loved Porsches for their performance, history and heritage of racing. The Cayman S has been around since 2006, got a facelift on 2010, and now the all new Cayman S is here for 2014.
They wanted to enhance its ride, cornering capabilities, fuel efficiency, power and the fun factor of the earlier Cayman. Well my God they have done just that!
With the base model of the Cayman S, you can get from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds, with the 3.4-liter V6 Engine pumping out 325 Horsepower. The one I got to test had the amazing seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox which is available as an option, the instant response on this gearbox is just phenomenon. The car was as powerful as they come! I felt every single HP of those 325 HPs under the bonnet, trying to explode with pure power, pushing the car to forward like a mad machine.
The drive and stability of the car were also enhanced from the older Cayman S, the handling felt very sharp and the steering was astonishingly accurate.
The Mid-Mounted engine of this vehicle sits less than a foot behind you, insuring the car is evenly balanced, giving more and more grip to it. I went around corners at 130 KM/H with this car and it felt stable! Placing the engine in the middle also allowed for lots of cargo space in the front and back trunks of the car, allowing you to take the car for shopping or even travelling.
The outside design of the car is truly beautiful, it’s a joy to look at. They obviously took their time re-designing and enhancing the looks of the older models Cayman S, making it better looking and more aerodynamic too.
The inside of this car is a combination of beauty, functionality and style, I wasn’t expecting less than all the technological features and multimedia devices inside such a car. It didn’t let me down, a variety of AM/FM Radio, CD/MP3, USB Jukebox and AUX are all linked to a BOSE speaker system that delivers an amazing listening experience. The touch screen display was also nice and responsive, the navigation system was good and it can be displayed into an LCD screen on the HUD with the dials.
The beautiful combination of leather, aluminum and quality materials was just out of this world. Very comfortable seats that hold you in place when the car is doing what it does best.
Overall, the Cayman S is a fun car to drive, delivers what it claims and is also beautiful to looks at, I would definitely buy this car. The Cayman S starts from KD 18,300. For the full list of technical details click [here].
