I had a go at this place last Friday during their soft opening and I must say this is different from any Japanese restaurant I’ve tried in Kuwait. They sort of have their own touch to things. The music is Kuwaiti for example when I was expecting Japanese. Had a great time all in all, will likely comeback for more to try different dishes.
We started out with a Lemon and Strawberry Juice. My lemon didn’t taste like a normal lemon juice, not sure what they added but it tasted good. My friend also said his strawberry had an extra flavour to it so I’ll likely try what he had next time.
The Yasai Salad must have been my favourite dish. Not only because it tasted great but also because it was a small portion. This way I won’t fill up early and end up eating just half of the main dish. The salad I ordered had cucumber, carrots, sweet corn, avocado and lettuce. A good combination for a light salad.
The Salmon Avocado Salad had crab, avocado, cucumber sand salom. Avocado ought to be a hit in Japanese cuisines, they use it frequently. Since the sauce was keeping things together it was fairly easy using chopsticks with salad. The mission impossible was eating chicken and rice with chopsticks.
I’m a huge fan of Popcorn Shrimp, seems today all types of restaurants offer this starter. The one we had tasted crispy which was a plus, it also tasted different. I asked the staff and turns out they added butter with the shrimp, worth trying.
The Gold Dragon was the only sushi roll we ordered. The main ingredient in the rolls was the shrimp tampura. I’d say they were okay, since I’m not into rolls much. I liked how they wanted to be different so they added the dotted sauce on top.
Although the rice was sticky so that it’d be a lot easier to eat when using chopsticks, I still couldn’t get the hang of it. The dish was just as good with a spoon.
I would definitely recommend it those who like boneless chicken.
The Hata Ebi was basically fish, shrimp and rice. I’d say this was my least favourite, maybe because I had a lot shrimp already. If you ordered popcorn shrimp for starters you should go for something else for a main meal. If not, then try this one.
I don’t think I have had dessert in a Japanese place before. The desserts Green Team and Strawberry Triful were their idea, adding a twist to a Japanese Cuisine. Both tasted great and light as they were fairly small. I’ll go for these two again on my next visit.
