I think every Kuwaiti is getting fed up of these terribly executed ads trying to lure GCC citizens to join a service. Frankom posted one yesterday on twitter and people started contributing with other ads they saw. Some of them are so bad you’d think it’s a joke. I’ve been seeing some of them for years and I’m starting to wonder if they actually work, they should, since they haven’t stopped advertising them. If you promote these ads and you’re reading this, please stop.
According to Gulf News the average Kuwaiti family spends KD 3,723 every month, 14% of that budget is spend on food, nothing new there. Families also spent less than 4% on health care and education, mostly because the government pays for both. I wonder what’s the average of the other GCC countries.[Source]
When I explain how popular instagram is here to someone abroad, I simply tell them it is beyond crazy. I looked at the popularity of pretty much every country by hashtag on instagram and nothing came close to Kuwait (currently at 8,235,486 photos). USA hashtag (the origin of instagram) is at 7.7 million right now.
Many of you already know Fluffy, he’s a popular American stand-up comedian. He recently went to do a stand up show in Saudi and I loved seeing him talk about his experience, it was something beyond comedy. He bashed many stereotypes, showed Arabs in a new perspective and had a great time.
When I found out about this buzzing on the web I was sceptical. I don’t understand how some people believe any rumour they see or hear of instantly. Before spreading the word research. Make sure the source(s) you’re getting information from is legit. The button was a hoax by Pan Arabia, a news website famously known for being the Onion News for the Arabian region. Facebook won’t be unveiling this button nor will they offer premium services for the GCC region.
Ubisoft announced they’ve partnered with twofour54 to bring the first gaming development studio in the GCC to Abu Dhabi. For those not familiar with Ubisoft, they’re the ones that bought you Far Cry and Assassin Creed. The news is great since they will be training and recruiting locals to their team. Hope to see a best selling game made by Arabs soon.[Source]
Android Centrel released a photo showing all countries that are now fully supported by the Android Market. By fully supported I mean those that are coloured green support both free and paid applictions. While those that are in white only support free applications. Of course you can always find a way of accessing paid applications if not available in your country through rooting and what not.
When I visited the web Android Market I noticed paid applications now appear in Kuwaiti Dinar currency which is pretty cool. I’m seriously considering ordering an ASUS Transformer tablet which is currently out of stock everywhere. So it will be great to have paid applications out of the box. Other GCC countries include Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.
