Five lawmakers are pushing to give harsher punishment for those that illegally own or sell wild animals after the incident where a Filipino maid died from a lion pet attack. They’re trying to push to have violators face 6 months of jail time and/or KD 20,000 fine.
This is a good step but I think it’s not effective because the number one issue is no one follows the rules, and those that are caught are often let go because of wasta. So before putting harsher punishments, there should be an investment on overcoming wasta and increasing credibility.[Source]
