We finally have something I like in Qurtoba Co-op, before that we only had Burger King, a fatayer place, a shawerma place, Caribou (which use to be my only go to place) and Quiznoss (which I kind of like). It looks really nice from the inside but it’s so packed, didn’t bother waiting in line. I’m really hoping after Ramadan traffic will reduce significantly.
I have bad news and good news for Qurtoba. The good news being Elevation opening soon obviously, located right next to Burger King. The bad news is a source told me Pick Yo won’t be opening up and instead have decided to close their branch which is disappointing, I was planning to frequent that place like crazy being so close to home. The Pick Yo news isn’t 100% accurate but I guess I’ll have to settle with burgers instead of frozen yoghurt for the time being.
I posted last year when Qurtoba Co-op finished a part of its’ renovating and which looked really good, but that appears to be the best part. Everything else finished renovating and it looks neat and well organized but nothing special. I guess they can now fit in more products with the same space. Waiting for Pick Yo to open up in Qurtoba.
I got use to the dull and plain design to be honest, since I’ve been going to the Co-op ever since I was a kid. To my surprise I passed by yesterday and they’ve completely redone the fruits section, the bakery section and added some things to make the place look more lively.
They’ve only renovated around 20% of the Co-op, my guess is they’ll close down portions of the supermarket to renovate until they eventually complete the whole thing. I’m liking it so far, doesn’t feel like a government supermarket anymore, more of a private sector.
A group of volunteers who live in Qurtoba decided to make a change, they’re cleaning up the area and setting up events to make Qurtoba greener and cleaner. I’ve lived in Qurtoba for more than 15 years and I’d love to see some changes. A decrease in the ridiculous amount of speed bumps would be one of them, unfortunately that’s not doable.
They currently have a volunteering event
tomorrow (Saturday 6th) that’s set to change Qurtoba’s playground to a much greener look, includes filling cracks and painting surrounding walls. Any Qortuba resident can volunteer and/or donate (KD 10 maximum donation). More details can be found [here].

Update: Due to bad weather, event has been postponed to Saturday 12th
