Ever since I was a kid, I would feel overpowering calmness and relaxation whenever I hear the sound of a pencil being used, or a chalk writing on the board. To this day, it’s so relaxing that I can easily fall asleep. I thought it was just me, I asked around and no one shared the same experience. Few days ago I did some research online only to discover there’s a term for it.
According to Wikipedia this feeling is called ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). The feeling is controversal because there’s a lot of evidence it exists but little to no scientific data to back it up. I guess I am proof that it does exist and would love to see research explaining why it happens.
There are tons of videos on YouTube that span for hours and all they do is draw so you can hear the sound of the pencil rubbing against paper, these videos are for people with ASMR. Someone with ASMR mentioned they would record themselves drawing then play it over to hear the pencil for relaxation.
ASMR has it’s disadvantages too, whenever I watch a tutorial that involves mostly drawing and all I hear is the sound of pencil, I would get sleepy and lose focus. Just thought it was worth sharing, kind of a relief knowing I wasn’t crazy thinking I was the only one with this.
