For new teachers that come from another country to pursue their career, they might be surprised how undisciplined some students are. One of the new teachers got so upset with a student chewing gum she stuck the gum in the student’s hair and later got fired for it. I understand students need to be punished, but not humiliated in front of their friends.[Source]
American University of Kuwait is opening their own school as early as September 2013 and they decided to call it the most confusing name ever, American University School of Kuwait. Students will be taught using tablets, so books are digital. No need for a heavy bag that weighs half the weight of a student.
- Pre-K through Grade 5 will open in the Fall of 2013
- Middle school for Grades 6-8 will open for the 2014-2015 academic year
- High school for grades 9-12 will be available to students will open soon after that
From what I have read, the place looks very promising
“Activities will include sports, computer/tablet applications classes, dance, music, water sports in the school’s Olympic size pool, and rock climbing on the newly built climbing wall.
The school will eventually showcase an in-house video production lab that will provide television studio broadcasts within the school. Courses in robotics, Auto CAD, computer art, and digital photography, as well as drama and music classes, will also be offered at AUS.“
I was impressed by this years showreel. It was better organized, was short and to the point. I liked this years video’s more than last year because somehow I sense more effort was put in the making. I guess they learned this time around to include only the best videos on the showreel instead of every single video produced. I’m looking forward for Showreel 2012.
I read this random post of a college student complaining about his exam being too difficult. Then comes another student and supports his theory by saying the university is purposely trying to make students fail. So that they repeat the same subject and drain more money of your wallet. Those two happen to be “Abdulaziz” and “Mohammed”.
So then another student “David” explains how if you study, pay attention you’ll be fine. That the complainers are victimized by their own laziness. Which struck the thought, are we just naturally lazy?
I had a new professor teach me Strategic Management class in University this course. A few days before the last class he fell apart and almost started crying with watery eyes. He said if he knew that the expectations were this low in Kuwait he wouldn’t have come to teach here in the first place.
It’s just amazing how some students completely lack respect towards their professors. They show up to class, swype their ID for attendance then leave immediately. Then when it comes to presenting your project via Power Point. They just read what’s on the Power Point, which they don’t even know what it’s about, since just 1 out of the 5 worked on the presentation. I won’t even discuss those that buy projects.
I think this is due to the fact that many students already have a secured job in near future. Whether it’s because of their father, or through wasta. Making them dramatically lack motivation.
