I’ve been using Windows 8 for a few months now after I upgraded from Windows 7 and at points this operating system is driving me crazy. I was very happy with Windows 7 but wanted to see what new features I’d get with 8. The photo above was taken from a store that was offering to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 for $125.
What I have come to realize, Windows 8 is optimised for tablets not for hardcore desktop users like myself. It’s too simple, takes away most of the features I use regularly. I hate how every application takes the full screen and the start button no longer exists. Of course desktop-mode is still there, but I find the metro-style which I call tablet-style pointless.
My plan is to buy this 512GB solid state drive that costs a bit more than KD 100. I’ll install an official Windows 7 on it and start over from there. Format the solid state drive that has Windows 8 and just use it as storage for Adobe files. I don’t recommend Windows 8 for desktop computers, I do think metro is great and efficient for tablets.
For those interested, Life Hacker has a post explaining how to downgrade to Windows 7 without formatting [here]
Update: I was contacted by a staff member from Microsoft Kuwait that was trying to defend Windows 8 by using terrible excuses. On a more positive note he did mention if someone contacts Microsoft Kuwait they will downgrade his operating system from Windows 8 to Windows 7 for free.
