I thought people switched from Windows to MAC for better stability. Ever since I started using the retina MacBook Pro all I’ve been having were issues. I got the 15-inch 2.3Ghz/16GB retina MacBook Pro for work, since they only allow MacBooks where I work that’s if you plan on getting your own laptop. Was surprised to see a laggy interface from the get go.
Language warning in the video below. Users are uploading videos of the lag.
The choppy user interface is just unbearable, it’s like I’ve received a beta version. Using the mission control or browsing heavy pages gets instant lag regardless of resolution. I wasn’t sure if it was just me but as it turns out 100’s if not 1000’s of users are going through the exact problem. Forums all over the world are reporting lag issues with the retina MacBook Pro.
Just trying to search for this issue on Google will clearly show you there are many others doing the same exact thing. I won’t list every forum discussing this issue as they are way too many, you can Google them. Apple’s discussion page has a lot of pages about this with no permanent fixes, you can browse link 1, link 2, link 3, link 4, link 5, link 6 and so on.
All of them seem to be facing the same issue I’m facing, horrible lag. And it’s not just the browser like most people think, it’s the entire user interface. After doing a lot of research I found a lot people pointing the problem to the Intel 4000 graphic card. I won’t even start ranting about how unresponsive Photoshop is, that should be a post on its on.
Since this is likely a graphic card issue which I’m really hoping can be fixed with an update, I am getting glitches now and then. The mail app for example gave me a blue curve the other day and the more I tried scrolling the weirder the curve becomes. Getting all this hideous malfunction is definitely unacceptable, even by Apple standards or so I thought.
In one of the forums someone pointed out he got the device and ran a hardware check-up then got an error. I wasn’t expecting the situation to be that bad but when I tried it myself I got the error. You would think they would have tested and optimized the new generation of MacBooks to oblivion, instead you get an error on check up right after unboxing the device.
I have updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.1, nothing has changed. I have unchecked energy saving and little has changed plus I don’t want to do that since it drains the battery. The only temporary fix I have found is to download SwitchResX and change your resolution to anything that’s above full HD (1920 x 1080). It should reduce the laggy interface to bearable use.
I highly don’t recommend anyone buying the retina MacBook Pro until Apple releases a fix for this shameful piece of equipment I’ve invested so much on something that only caused me frustration. Of course not all retina MacBooks are facing this issue, some of them run flawlessly but a reasonable number of them aren’t and Apple needs to address this.
