I passed by this guy yesterday, he’s actually getting pretty viral on instagram with everyone trying to figure out how he’s floating mid-air. It’s much simpler than one would think. This type of fake levitation goes way back, people were tricked for hundreds of years into believing yogis get 8 spiritual powers, levitation being one of them.
Kept hidden under his robe is a sturdy steel rod which runs downs his sleeve to a chair that he sits on which gives him stability, not so comfortable though. Part of a BBC documentary explained how it was used and shows the process, video below.
This is very similar to an KLM commercial. When they launched their new economy comfort product they had a guy sitting at Manchester airport reading a newspaper with one leg on the ground. The whole contraption was anchored on the ground to withstand the weight of the person seated.
